Evaluation

Each student will receive two quiz grades for this assignment. The first grade will be out of 20 possible points. It will be based on your success in emulating Mary Shelley's voice through your journal entry and your ability to demonstrate understanding and empathy for the problems facing your character.


The second quiz grade will be based on your group presentation.  It will also be scored out of 20. Everyone in the group will receive the same grade for this presentation. You will be scored on creativity and clarity in your presentation, as well as your group's ability to use examples from the novel to support  your proposed resolution for the novel.

Journal entry is written with appropriate voice

 

No attempt to write in the voice of the chosen character. Usage of modern terms and references.

Poor attempt to write in voice of the chosen character. Demonstrates little knowledge of novel's events. 

Journal entry is consistent with character in the novel. References to plot demonstrate understanding of the novel.

Voice of chosen character is imitated perfectly. Use of 18th century vocabulary adds to verisimilitude.

Journal entry demonstrates understanding of character's feelings and obstacles.

 

 

Journal entry is written from wrong point of view. Writing shows lack of understanding of the novel.

Journal entry lacks emotion. Writer demonstrates little empathy for character's struggles.

Journal entry clearly identifies dilemas of the character. Demonstrates ability to empathize with character.

Journal entry provides insight into character's feelings based on ability of writer to think from muultiple points of view.

Presentation: creativity and clarity

Presentation is dull and does not demonstrate any real understanding of the novel and its themes.

Presentation uses one or two tools available in PPT to keep viewers' attention. Basic understanding demonstrated.

Multiple PPT tools used. Information shows understanding and provides insight.

Multiple PPT tools enhance viewers' understanding while holding their attention. Good insights provided.

Presentation:

No examples used to support statements. No resolution provided for ending of the novel.

Few, weak examples used for support. Proposed resolution is highly unlikely.
