Introduction

It's 1794, and you are a farmer living on the European countryside. The world is changing at a pace faster than ever before. Only 18 years ago the colonists of the Americas signed and sent a letter to King George of England, declaring themselves free of English rule. Five years ago they formalized their own constitution, a document establishing a new form of government that provides the power of choice to the people of this newly formed country. After centuries of oppression, the French have decided that they, too, would like to try this new "democracy." In 1789 they revolted against King Louis XVI and his queen, Marie Antoinette.

So what does this have to do with you? Well, as I said before, the world is changing. With these changes comes scientific discovery. While explorers make plans to conquer the North Pole, unbeknownst to most of western Europe, a young scientist named Victor Frankenstein has unleashed a discovery that is both a medical marvel and a menace to society. He has created life from death! A man, sewn together from assorted corpses, is walking the countryside, and he has crossed your path. You must relate your experience with this beast to the rest of the world through the only legacy you will leave behind - your journal.
